The ACA Way: Our Unique Delivery Principles

One thing that makes the ACA training system so distinctive is the use of five educational delivery principles, which every member of our staff instinctively ensures are present in every class we deliver.

These principles have been defined and refined over ACA’s 30 plus year history and they underpin the practical and ethical considerations of everything we do. They are designed to nurture and develop the actor as a person and an artist as well as to enhance a professional mindset within an achievement-based environment.

The Actor’s M.A.P.:

Created by Dean Carey, ACA’s Founder and CEO, M.A.P. defines the roles and responsibilities of the trinity within each of us: the Manager, the Artist, and the Person. ACA’s education speaks to and develops the correct skill sets for each aspect within ourselves to ensure career success, personal health and professional sustainability.

High Support:

ACA’s paradigm for learning grows from an environmental mix comprising: high challenge matched with high support, leading to high performance. This is a hallmark of ACA’s culture: no challenge will be given to any student without an equal amount of support with which to achieve it. Matching developing confidence with ongoing risk is a strategy for success.

Fusion:

ACA’s programs embrace time-honoured performance techniques and content along with an array of contemporary texts within a contemporary theatrical landscape. It is this exact combination of time-honoured technique within a modern performance context that provides each student with the perfect ingredients for creative expansion and personal expression.

Duty of Care:

ACA’s duty of care to each person is paramount to our culture. The developing artist and the person themselves, as well as their internal manager and their strategic resources, are all embraced and supported. Each aspect of an individual has its own needs whilst undergoing vocational training. ACA understands, respects and empowers each element.

An even playing field at ACA means that actors, teachers and directors are all on the field together, never in the stands watching, judging or criticising. All training is actually exploration and takes place with all players collaborating in healthy, vibrant and courageous ways.

Nothing of any real meaning or merit occurs in the creative landscape without deep collaboration and alignment. All ACA staff understand this and operate via this simple yet all-inclusive context. We dedicate all of our resources and energies to ensuring that all onsite events, performances, cultural exchanges and community engagement achieve the highest standards on every level possible, in order to make a significant difference to all who engage with both ACA and our performance precinct.
