GEMMA SHIELD

Growing up in Townsville, Queensland Gemma tried practically every extra-curricular activity she could from art classes to singing lessons to highland dance. She enjoyed all of these pursuits but the one she became most passionate about was acting. She participated annually in Eisteddfods and spent her school holidays involved in youth theatre productions, revelling in every moment she got to spend on stage.

After graduating high school, Gemma was accepted into TheatreiNQ’s The Bridge Project where she was able to work alongside the professional theatre company performing in their main stage productions and gaining valuable insight into behind-the-scenes aspects of the theatre world. She became particularly interested in set design and was apprentice set painter on their 2020 production of Much Ado About Nothing.

During her time at ACA Gemma has had the joy of taking on the roles of Masha in Three Sisters, Lady Anne in Richard III, Ismene in Antigone, Coral in A Conversation, Michelle in The Boys and Juror 4 in Twelve Angry Men.

Gemma is eager to step out into the industry and is especially excited to be joining the Poetry in Action company on their 2024 Australian and International tour.
