Dean Carey

Dean Carey is the Founder, Director and Dean of Theatre of Actors Centre Australia (ACA), which he launched in Sydney in 1987 when he was 27 years of age. ACA’s Patron is Hugh Jackman. The creative culture Dean built and steered across more than three decades at ACA, underpins his teaching, coaching, mentoring, and writing, and forms the cornerstone of ACA’s values and vision.

Dean’s works include The Actors Audition Manual Volumes 1 & 2, Currency Press, Australia, Masterclass MEN & Masterclass WOMEN, Currency Press, Australia, Nick Hern Books, London, and The Acting Edge, Lulu Books, Foreword by Hugh Jackman. His latest work, The Art of Teaching Acting, will be published by World Scientific Publishing in December 2021, as will his book, M.A.P, a new lens for life.

Dean has been Head of Acting at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Perth, Australia and The National Institute of Dramatic Arts, Sydney, AustraliaDean has also taught in 9 countries including New Zealand, the UK, the USA, Russia, France, Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil, & Vietnam as well as in most major acting schools across the world.

Dean has been teaching acting for over 40 years and now lives and works outside of Sydney in the Southern Highlands, Australia, where he continues to write, create curriculum and coach online. Dean’s passionate pursuit of transformational education and performance motivates and guides all he does.
